Pls help with a vocab question. Someone who follows you on twitter is your “follower”, someone you follow is a ? (not: followee, leader?)

It seems the standard nomenclature in talks I have seen is as follows: people who follow you are “followers” and people you follow are “friends”.
I always thought this was awkward, but there you have it.
